Ο KUBRICK ΕΞΗΓΕΙ ΤΗΝ ΤΕΛΕΥΤΑΙΑ ΣΚΗΝΗ ΤΟΥ 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY



«Προσπάθησα να αποφύγω την εξήγηση από την πρώτη στιγμή της κυκλοφορίας της ταινίας. Όταν συζητάς τις ιδέες σου, ακούγονται ανόητες, ενώ όταν παίρνουν σάρκα και οστά, τότε είναι διαφορετικά, αλλά θα προσπαθήσω. Η ιδέα ήταν ότι τον [Dr. David Bowman] παίρνουν θεοειδείς οντότητες, πλάσματα καθαρής ενέργειας και ευφυΐας, που δεν έχουν κάποια συγκεκριμένη μορφή ή σχήμα. Αυτά τον μεταφέρουν σε ένα μέρος που μπορείτε να χαρακτηρίσετε ως ζωολογικό πάρκο για ανθρώπους, για να τον μελετήσουν. Και, από το σημείο που βρίσκεται στο δωμάτιο αυτό, όλη η ζωή του περνάει μπροστά από τα μάτια του. Και εκείνος δεν έχει αίσθηση του χρόνου. Συμβαίνει όπως δείχνεται στην ταινία. Διαλέγουν το συγκεκριμένο δωμάτιο, το οποίο είναι μία ανακριβής αντιγραφή της Γαλλικής αρχιτεκτονικής, μπορούμε να υποθέσουμε, επειδή αυτό ενδεχομένως να έβρισκε όμορφο, αλλά δεν ήταν σίγουροι. Με την ίδια έννοια που ούτε εμείς είμαστε σίγουροι όταν φτιάχνουμε ζωολογικούς κήπους με ζώα και προσπαθούμε να τους δώσουμε αυτό που εμείς θεωρούμε ότι είναι το φυσικό τους περιβάλλον. Εν πάση περιπτώσει, όταν τελείωσαν με τη μελέτη, όπως συμβαίνει σε τόσους μύθους από όλες τις κουλτούρες στον κόσμο, ο Dave μετατρέπεται σε κάποιο είδος υπέρ-όντος και στέλνεται πίσω στη Γη, μεταμορφωμένος σε κάποιο είδος υπερανθρώπου. Μένει μόνο να μαντέψουμε τι συμβαίνει όταν επιστρέφει. Πρόκειται για ένα μοτίβο που αποτελεί μεγάλη υπόθεση στη μυθολογία και αυτό προσπαθήσαμε να παρουσιάσουμε.

*Το παραπάνω κείμενο προέρχεται από ένα ντοκιμαντέρ του 1980 του κινηματογραφιστή Jun'ichi Yaoi, ο οποίος ήθελε να παρουσιάσει τις παραφυσικές δραστηριότητες που έλαβαν χώρα στα γυρίσματα της ταινίας «The Shining». Το ντοκιμαντέρ αυτό δεν είχε κυκλοφορήσει ποτέ έως τώρα, μέχρι που διέρευσαν κάποια αποσπάσματα του στο διαδίκτυο. Σε ένα από αυτά τα αποσπάσματα φαίνεται o Yaoi να παίρνει τηλέφωνο τον Kubrick και να τον ρωτάει για το νόημα της τελευταίας σκηνής του ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’, και ο Kubrick να δίνει την παραπάνω απάντηση.
